BEHIND THE LENS

I am a wildlife photographer born and based in Sri Lanka, having spent my childhood in various parts of the country due to my parents’ commitments. This experience gave me the privilege of seeing the diverse landscapes and wildlife of Sri Lanka before settling in my hometown, Katunayake. I began my nursery education in Kandy at Kingswood College and later completed my schooling at Wesley College Colombo. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Sciences and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership.

Nature has always been an integral part of my life, and I cherish every moment spent exploring it. My photography journey began in 2006 when I captured images of flowers with a Nikon digital camera for PowerPoint presentations. Over time, my interest grew from point-and-shoot photography to more serious wildlife photography, first with a Fujifilm HX30, then with Nikon DSLR cameras including the D3200, D7200, and D750. As I invested more in my craft, I acquired professional lenses such as the Sigma 150–500mm and Nikon NIKKOR lenses (500mm, 70–200mm, 105mm Macro, and 16–35mm wide-angle), enabling me to capture the beauty of wildlife in stunning detail.

My passion for wildlife photography was sparked in 2012 during a visit to Yala National Park with my uncle, Nirmal Fernando, who remains my greatest inspiration. Since then, I have dedicated myself to photographing the incredible flora and fauna of Sri Lanka, from big cats and mammals to birds and insects. Over the past year, I have traveled extensively across the country, seeking out new species and unique moments in nature.
